goodridge.jpg

There were 24 Juniors in the field for Goodridge and Longue Rue Cups with vital points up for grabs in the Ray Lowe Order of merit and of course the prestige of winning the trophies for the home players.

The blue tee competition saw an impressive six entries with Josh Neville coming out on top with an incredible 27 points! Runner up was Lewis Blondel with 24 points on countback from Alex Queripel. The outstanding scoring has been a feature of the blue tee comps and it won’t be long before a number of the players make the transition to the red tees.

In the red tee competition La Grande Mare player Thomas Chamberlain continued his recent run of good form to take a valuable ten points in the Ray Lowe Order of Merit. Home player Chloe Domaille won the Longue Rue Cup with another excellent performance highlighting again she is one to watch.

In the White tee competition it was another La Grande Mare player James Troop who bagged another Ray Lowe Order of merit win with a superb 40 points. ‘Mr Consistency’ Conor Mckenna won the Goodridge Cup with another top performance and he will be eyeing another handicap reduction if he continues his stellar form.

Some of the golf was of the very highest quality. There is talent in depth across all the age groups and plenty of golf still to be played this season. For the updated Ray Lowe Order of Merit click here: https://guernseyjuniorgolf.com/handicap-28-and-below-order-of-merit

HAMPSHIRE SUCCESS FOR JENNIE BALLAY

jenny1.jpg

It’s turning out to be quite a season for Jennie Ballay. After enjoying a fantastic run in the Bronze division of the Ladies Island Championship in May, Jennie made the trip to the UK this month to compete in the Hampshire Junior Girls Championships at Lee On Solent GC. Jennie has been working hard on her game with coach Lindsay Boyd and sharpening her short game with Bobby Eggo. All that effort paid off with a superb performance in Hampshire to win the Douglas Cup for handicaps over 20 with a magnificent 40 points. It was a particularly proud day for the family as older sister Steph had also won the same trophy in 2012.

LGM Juniors are Runner Up in Hampshire Greenjackets

The La Grande Mare junior team finished runner up in the Hampshire Golf Union Greenjackets competition. The finals day was hosted at Hockley Golf Club and the La Grande Mare played against teams from Sanford Springs, Hayling and the hosts Hockley GC.

The weather for finals day put in doubt if any play would be possible. Forecast thunder and strong winds forced the orginisers to cancel the semi finals and go straight to an 18 hole play off.

Play started with horizontal rain due to the strong winds. The course is very exposed and few could have played in worse conditions. Matches were suspended three times and the understandable decision was made to conclude play after 9 holes. When the scores were calculated La Grande Mare were runners up losing out to winners Sanford Springs. The standout round of the day was by Ollie Chedhomme scoring an amazing 19 points in the conditions.

It has been a great journey for the La Grande Mare junior team of Ollie Chedhomme, Daniel Troop and James Troop, with wins over Royal Guernsey, Royal Jersey and Barton on Sea taking them all the way to the finals.

Under 12/13/14 Hamphire Junior Boys Championship 2019

Guernsey had 5 junior players who qualified and travelled to the Hampshire junior championship for ages 12-14 played at Alresford Golf Club.

The competition was played in a stableford format with prizes for gross and handicap corrected scores in each age category. The total field size was 30 with 20% of the entries coming from the Channel Islands.

Funding towards the trip was kindly provided by the Ray Lowe Sporting Foundation, Sports Commission and the GGU.

All the juniors preformed very well, all achieving over 30 points on a new course.

Lewis Marley 36 points

Rory Mckenna 35 points

Conor Mckenna 35 points

James Troop 33 points

Max Raffray 31 points

The excellent scores for the Guernsey players, on a scrorching hot day, were reflected at the prize giving. Lewis Marley had the winning handicap score in the Under 14 category and Rory Mckenna was runner up in the Under 14 gross and handicap competitions. This is a fantastic set of results for the island and a big congratulations to Lewis and Rory.

ROYAL GUERNSEY JUNIOR OPEN - IT’S A WINNING WEEKEND FOR OLLIE CHEDHOMME & A WIN DOUBLE FOR THE CHAMBERLAIN BROTHERS

There was an excellent field of 20 for the Junior Open sponsored by Rihoy & Son which was played in perfect conditions today. It would have taken a brave person to bet against Ollie Chedhomme on current form and he produced the goods again with another great performance. However he certainly didn’t have it all his own way and his winning score of 38 was matched by James Falla who he beat on countback. Lewis Marley made an excellent defence of his title finishing in third. In the red tee competition it was a one two for visiting players with Thomas Chamberlain scoring an excellent 39 points to win by four from fellow Grande Mare Junior Chloe Gaudion.

Henry Chamberlain made it a great day in the Chamberlain household to win the blue competition with a fantastic 24 points ahead of runner up Lewis O’Brien.

Dennis Riddell representing sponsors Rihoy presented the prizes along with Lady Captain Alice Hurford.

He also earned a valuable 10 Ray Lowe Order of Merit points in the first event of a big double header Junior weekend of golf.Runner up for the second year in a row was Tanner Austin with 38 points. After a poor front nine, Tanner had a superb back nine of 23 points playing the testing last 6 holes in level par.

The golfing force that is Ollie Chedhomme is unstoppable at the moment and he shot a brilliant 67 gross to take the scratch prize.

In the 28 handicap and above category Oliver Farmer took the top spot with 35 points
and Oliver Chamberlain won the blue tee competition with 19 points.
