The La Grande Mare junior team finished runner up in the Hampshire Golf Union Greenjackets competition. The finals day was hosted at Hockley Golf Club and the La Grande Mare played against teams from Sanford Springs, Hayling and the hosts Hockley GC.
The weather for finals day put in doubt if any play would be possible. Forecast thunder and strong winds forced the orginisers to cancel the semi finals and go straight to an 18 hole play off.
Play started with horizontal rain due to the strong winds. The course is very exposed and few could have played in worse conditions. Matches were suspended three times and the understandable decision was made to conclude play after 9 holes. When the scores were calculated La Grande Mare were runners up losing out to winners Sanford Springs. The standout round of the day was by Ollie Chedhomme scoring an amazing 19 points in the conditions.
It has been a great journey for the La Grande Mare junior team of Ollie Chedhomme, Daniel Troop and James Troop, with wins over Royal Guernsey, Royal Jersey and Barton on Sea taking them all the way to the finals.
