JAYDEN ON FIRE IN THE UK

Jayden Tucknott enjoyed a successful trip to the UK over the last few days playing in three Junior Opens culminating in victory at the Blacknest Junior Open yesterday defending the title he won last year.

His first event was at Goodwood in Sussex where playing the course for the first time Jayden shot a solid 81 (+9) to finish 5th. He then moved on to Hampshire shooting 79 (+8) to finish 5th again at Hockley.

He left the best to last at Blacknest. Whilst the course is not long, it’s very tight, Jayden had a brilliant front nine and was two under at the turn. He kept it together brilliantly coming home to shoot a fantastic 70 (+1) and secure the victory. As a result he is now down to 2.

Congratulations Jayden on your win and two other excellent performances!

HAMPSHIRE BOYS TRAINING DAY IN GUERNSEY

Hampshire Boys training took place on Guernsey for the first time on Tuesday at Royal Guernsey Golf Club.

With ten Guernsey Boys involved with Hampshire teams and development squads, the cost of travelling to monthly training days in the UK can be absolutely prohibitive, so a team from the Hampshire Golf Union came up with the idea of trialing training days on the Island which replicate ones in the UK. The only difference in Guernsey, is that all age groups were brought together to train from U12s all the way up to U18s. The training sessions comprise of skills tests in the morning including putting, chipping and pitching, with stats recorded providing a fun but competitive environment. After lunch the boys all played 18 holes in a competitive medal.

We’re very fortunate to have highly experienced PGA Coaches of the calibre of Phil Sykes and John Dent from La Grande Mare on the Island and they both worked together for the first time to deliver the session.

It was a fantastic, productive day enjoyed by everyone. It was great to see all the age groups together with our youngest player ten year old Lewis O’Brien working with our oldest players adding to the fun but also helping to develop his game further and visa versa. A special mention to Alex Mills who shot a superb 77 gross in the medal in the afternoon to highlight his class.

Well done to everyone involved, and a huge thank you to John and Phil for their hard work and delivering a session of the very highest quality.

The next training day is in August at La Grande Mare and hopefully we’ll see more on Island sessions in the future.

SHAY WINS THE CENTENARY TROPHY IN STYLE

Shay Goddard’s outstanding debut season got even better when he shot a brilliant 76 (nett 64) to win his first men’s competition, the prestigious Centenary trophy yesterday. It was a major milestone for Shay breaking 80 for the first time in competition, all the more extraordinary as he has only been playing golf for just a few months. Shay’s round featured 11 pars and he was out in 39 and back in 37 with a birdie at the 16th.

This super talented young sportsman has been a fantastic addition to his new sport, both as a popular junior member and as part of the green keeping team. Many congratulations to him on his brilliant win , we are all very proud of his amazing achievements - next stop single figures!

TANNER SHINES IN CANTERBURY

Tanner Austin enjoyed a great day at the Canterbury GC Junior Open yesterday finishing second in the scratch and 5th overall in a field of 47 players from the South East and London. The Par 71 Harry Colt designed course is an absolute stunner and provided a stern test with big changes in elevation requiring accuracy off the tee and tough undulating greens. Playing the course for the first time, Tanner plotted his way round the front nine and was one over at the turn. A double bogey at the 10th and a run of bogeys threatened to de-rail his round but he showed great resilience finishing eagle, par, and then holing a bomb for birdie on the 18th in front of a packed clubhouse. His 74 (+3) was Tanner’s best result in the UK to date and followed 5th place in the Ifield Junior Open in Sussex the day before and 6th in the Ham Manor Junior Open on Sunday.

Wins for Dan Troop, Ollie Farmer, Lewis Brehaut at LGM

The LGM greenjackets team had a great warm up for finals weekend at Hockley Golf Club with a first, second and third finish. Daniel Troop had his first win of the season with a 3 point margin from Tom Chamberlain and James Troop.

Oliver Farmer continued his very solid season with his first win with 36 points playing from a handicap of 17. Lewis Brehaut and Luck Adcock finished first and second in the blue tee competition. Their handicaps continue to tumble with massive Stableford scores of 28 and 24 respectively for 9 holes.

GOODRIDGE & LONGUE RUE CUPS - MAJOR MILESTONE FOR BRILLIANT JAYDEN, GUS GOES LOW & LEWIS BREHAUT SHINES

The weather was stunning and the golf spectacular on another memorable day at L’ancresse.

Jayden Tucknott has been in the best form of his life in the last week with a superb display in the Captain’s Prize followed by a personal best 71 on Saturday in the L’ancresse Stableford. So it was not a question of if he was going to break 70 for the first time but when. He answered in style yesterday with a superb 69 gross which featured four birdies and a front nine of 34 for the second consecutive round. He kept his composure and played beautiful golf on the back nine making a birdie on the 16th to cancel out a solitary bogey on the last. You’d be pushed to find a harder working golfer than Jayden and many congratulations from all of us on achieving this major milestone which was thoroughly deserved.

Runner up was Lewis Marley who shot a fine 73 for 37 points, he too has been in impressive form recently and like Jayden will be looking forward to the Island Junior Championships.

In the red tee Longue Rue Cup, Gus Carre was in superb form scoring 41 points. He has been working very hard on his game and getting out to play at every opportunity. Gus made five pars and had a particularly impressive back nine coming back in 44 finishing in style with a 3 on the 18th.

Runner up with 34 points was Anton Swale. He made two pars and just edged out Lewis O’Brien on countback. With Island Player Tom Pattimore on the bag, Lewis got off to an excellent start with a par at the first and made two other pars along the way.

In the blue tee competition the scoring was phenomenal. Lewis Brehaut was the winner with 23 points and Elliot Brehaut was second with 20 points. Mary Anne Waterton had a debut to be proud of scoring 19 points to take third place on count back.

Next up we are back at La Grande Mare on Sunday the 17th July for the next stop on the Ray Lowe Sporting Foundation order of merit. Entry is open now.
