Chloe stars at Junior Girls County Week

Quite a few days for Chloe!

Day1:

Chloe Gaudion made a brilliant start to Junior girls county week. There was no sign of nerves as she played her singles match against Middlesex this morning. Chloe was in fantastic form and totally dominated beating her opponent 6&5. The Hampshire Junior girls team won the match 4.5 - 2.5.

The early finish allowed her time to rest and re-energize for the afternoon foursomes stableford. Her quality golf continued and along with her partner they scored an excellent 33 points to finish second. Well done Chloe on an amazing competitive debut - keep up the great golf!

Day 2:

Chloe Gaudion was on fire again today for Hampshire junior girls in her singles match against Surrey in junior county match week. Surrey are acknowledged as one of the strongest teams in the country and are ranked number two in the competition. This didn’t seem to faze Chloe who was in stunning form and duly completed a crushing 6&5 victory for the second day in a row.

Chloe was rested for this afternoon’s matches to keep her fresh for the big game against home team Kent tomorrow.

Day 3:

It was always going to be a big ask for Chloe Gaudion to replicate her form of the first two days of Junior Girls County week and unfortunately she lost her match against her Kent opponent today. However Chloe had the consolation of winning the outstanding Hampshire player of the week award, a quite phenomenal achievement for someone making their debut at this level and richly deserved. Many congratulations Chloe and we all look forward to seeing you in action in the Junior inter insular this weekend.

There was a good sized field to compete for honours on Sunday. in the red tee Griffin Cup, Gus Carre stormed to victory with a brilliant performance scoring 45 points. Gus has been working very hard on his game all summer and is now reaping the rewards. He made nine pars and had a stunning back nine coming back in 39, a fantastic effort. In third place was Ellie Blondel who has made a welcome return to competitive golf which has included playing in ladies competitions too. Like her brother she is swinging the club nicely and Ellie scored 39 points. A special mention to Lewis O’Brien too. Although he wasn’t in the prizes, the ten year old had his best ever front nine going out in 41 and he also birdied the 15th and scored 38 points.

In the blue tee competition Lewis Brehaut took the honours with 22 points a wonderful round. He was one ahead of Luke Adcock who had another good day. Mary Ann Waterton was also under par with 20 points.

TANNER AND TROOPY MEET TOMMY

Tanner and James Troop had the pleasure of meeting world number 26 Tommy Fleetwood last week. The boys were playing in the Royal Birkdale Junior Open and Tommy was watching a relation play in a practice round in the group ahead along with Manchester City Manager manager Pep Guardiola. The Royal Birkdale Junior Open had a field of 90 players from across the UK with the handicap for entries cut at 6. Although the boys had a tough day on the links they thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to play at such an iconic venue in a high class field and of course meet Tommy!

A win and a loss for James Troop in Under16 county triangular tournament.

The La Grande Mare Junior joined up with the Hampshire Under 16s squad to take on Surrey and Sussex at Clandon Regis Golf Club near Guildford. Surrey fielded a very impressive team with 6 players scratch or better.

In James’ match he was 2 down to Surrey at the turn and 2 up against Sussex. Surrey closed out the match on the 15th with a 4&3 win but James kept his concentration to close his match against Sussex on the next hole winning 3&2.

Surrey again proved they are the strongest county in the Southern region with a convincing win but Hampshire were pleased with their 6-2 win over Sussex.

ROYAL GUERNSEY JUNIORS v ROYAL JERSEY JUNIORS

The eagerly anticipated match against Royal Jersey juniors took place today in fantastic conditions at L’ancresse. It’s hard to believe it’s been two years since we’ve played this fixture and for several of our visitors it was their first time playing the course. Our juniors were giving their opponents a total of 119 shots so it was always going to be a challenge but we were treated to some quality golf from both teams.

RJGC Junior Captain Nic Lawrenson got proceedings underway with a solid opening tee shot. He partnered Barnaby Schilder who was receiving 29 shots from Ollie Chedhomme who teamed up with Alex Mills. The home team battled valiantly but in the end they went down 2&1

In the second match Captain Rory Mckenna and Noah Davy took on Iman Hamid-Wilkinson and Freddie Whalley. Playing off 5, Iman is a wonderful talent and is likely to be a key player in the Jersey women’s team. The fourball enjoyed an excellent battle, Rory and Noah dovetailing nicely, and Noah showing off some sublime short game skills at times. The boys got the first points on the board for RGGC winning 2&1.

In match three Lewis Marley and Shay Goddard took on Nathan Crake-Jones and Harrison Leggett. Lewis in particular played some stunning golf and was one under par with his own ball but it seemed every time he made a birdie their opponents would use their shots and counter them. In the end our boys lost 4&3 but it was quality match and credit to the Jersey pair who were excellent.

Match four saw and old partnership re-united. Conor Mckenna and Jamie Trebert played Jacob Townsend and Chloe Cadoret. Sweet swinging Jacob looks to be an excellent prospect and with Chloe coming in at different times it was a tough battle for our pair. Conor was rock solid and in the end it was another home victory one up.

In the final match Jayden Tucknott and Tanner Austin played against the youngest pair Aiden Wilson and Ben Carvalho. The Jersey youngsters were solid using their shots well. Jayden and Tanner played some super golf at times but the putts just weren’t falling for them today and they lost 2&1.

The final score was 3-2 to RJGC and congratulations to them on their win. It was great to have the fixture back and the match was enjoyed by everyone. Our visitors were highly complimentary of the condition of the course so a big thank you to the greenkeeping team. Also the catering team for looking after both teams and to Derek De La Haye who does a superb job with the Jersey juniors for bringing his team across. Team Manager Dan O’Brien presented the trophy to the winning captain Nic Lawrenson.

Finally a big thank you to our team sponsor Rihoy & Son for their support and we look forward to the return fixture next year.

It was a close match on the front nine but Ollie showed his class after the turn and closed out the game with a stunning approach to the 15th. It was a spirited display from his opponent but Ollie was not going to be denied in what was his last opportunity to win the Junior title, one he has been chasing for a number of years.
