ROYAL GUERNSEY JUNIORS v ROYAL JERSEY JUNIORS

The eagerly anticipated match against Royal Jersey juniors took place today in fantastic conditions at L’ancresse. It’s hard to believe it’s been two years since we’ve played this fixture and for several of our visitors it was their first time playing the course. Our juniors were giving their opponents a total of 119 shots so it was always going to be a challenge but we were treated to some quality golf from both teams.

RJGC Junior Captain Nic Lawrenson got proceedings underway with a solid opening tee shot. He partnered Barnaby Schilder who was receiving 29 shots from Ollie Chedhomme who teamed up with Alex Mills. The home team battled valiantly but in the end they went down 2&1

In the second match Captain Rory Mckenna and Noah Davy took on Iman Hamid-Wilkinson and Freddie Whalley. Playing off 5, Iman is a wonderful talent and is likely to be a key player in the Jersey women’s team. The fourball enjoyed an excellent battle, Rory and Noah dovetailing nicely, and Noah showing off some sublime short game skills at times. The boys got the first points on the board for RGGC winning 2&1.

In match three Lewis Marley and Shay Goddard took on Nathan Crake-Jones and Harrison Leggett. Lewis in particular played some stunning golf and was one under par with his own ball but it seemed every time he made a birdie their opponents would use their shots and counter them. In the end our boys lost 4&3 but it was quality match and credit to the Jersey pair who were excellent.

Match four saw and old partnership re-united. Conor Mckenna and Jamie Trebert played Jacob Townsend and Chloe Cadoret. Sweet swinging Jacob looks to be an excellent prospect and with Chloe coming in at different times it was a tough battle for our pair. Conor was rock solid and in the end it was another home victory one up.

In the final match Jayden Tucknott and Tanner Austin played against the youngest pair Aiden Wilson and Ben Carvalho. The Jersey youngsters were solid using their shots well. Jayden and Tanner played some super golf at times but the putts just weren’t falling for them today and they lost 2&1.

The final score was 3-2 to RJGC and congratulations to them on their win. It was great to have the fixture back and the match was enjoyed by everyone. Our visitors were highly complimentary of the condition of the course so a big thank you to the greenkeeping team. Also the catering team for looking after both teams and to Derek De La Haye who does a superb job with the Jersey juniors for bringing his team across. Team Manager Dan O’Brien presented the trophy to the winning captain Nic Lawrenson.

Finally a big thank you to our team sponsor Rihoy & Son for their support and we look forward to the return fixture next year.
