CHLOE GAUDION LIGHTS UP LA GRANDE MARE WITH A BRILLIANT NEW COURSE RECORD

Just a week after producing one of the rounds of the season at L’ancresse, Chloe Gaudion elevated her game to a whole new level and lit up La Grande Mare yesterday with a magnificent round of 67 - a new Women’s course record.

Her Coach Phil Sykes has been challenging Chloe to improve her scoring recently and yesterday she repaid his confidence in her ability with interest. Playing in the August Junior Competition, the 14 year old was out in 35 cancelling out two bogeys with birdies on both the par 5s. She then proceeded to par all the remaining holes to come back in 32.

We’ve known about Chloe’s talent for a long time, but to produce golf of this exceptional quality at her age in challenging conditions is truly incredible.

As a result of her round she is now down to 7.6 and in the very top tier of Women’s golf on the Island and without question will have made waves across the Channel in Hampshire.

Many congratulations Chloe on your outstanding achievement, we are all immensely proud of you and look forward to following your progress this season and throughout the rest of your career.

James gets his first cap for Hampshire

James Troop travelled to Mannings Heath Golf club in Sussex to play for Hampshire U14s for the first time. The format was a triangular matchplay match against Surrey and Sussex. The matches ebbed and flowed throughout the round. Surrey finally managed to close out the match 2&1 on the 17th but the match against Sussex went up the last. James held his nerve and won an exciting last hole to finish the match all square.

JAYDEN SHINES IN HAMPSHIRE

Jayden Tucknott has been enjoying himself competing in the UK for the first time. The talented 8 handicapper had a superb second round in the Hampshire Championships last week and followed it up by winning the Scratch Prize at the Blacknest Junior Open on countback. Blacknest is a tough test, a tight, tricky course with challenging greens but Jayden rose to the occasion putting a very solid round together which included nine pars. Many congratulations Jayden, we’re all very proud of you.

GOODRIDGE & LONGUE RUE CUPS - Birdie Fest on the Links in another day of Extraordinary Scoring

We’re starting to run out of superlatives to describe this Junior season. On Sunday some of the performances were simply incredible and we’ve never seen so many birdies (and an eagle) in a Junior Competition on the Island. It was a day to remember on so many levels.

In the White Tee Goodridge Cup, La Grande player Max Raffray had the round of his life to scoop his first win of the season in the Ray Lowe Order of Merit. His round of 77 gross was the 5th time a Junior has broken 80 for the first time this season. However what makes this even more impressive is that Max plays off 20! He was out in 43 with a birdie on the 6th and then proceeded to play the best nine holes of his life birdieing the 10th, 13th and 16th to come home in a one under par 34 for a stunning nett 57 for 48 points. Max has been on the Junior Scene for a long time and has plenty of talent but it was wonderful to finally see him put it all together. Hopefully this will give him the confidence to really push on to the next level with his golf and many congratulations to him.

Winner of the Goodridge Cup was Ollie Chedhomme with a magnificent round of 67 gross (38 points) which included seven birdies! After a bogey on the first he bounced back with birdies on the 2nd, 5th and 6th to go out in 34 to set him up nicely for the back nine. An ugly double on the 10th threatened to de-rail his round but he then proceeded to go on a birdie blitz with a two on the 12th followed by birdies on the 13th, 16th and 17th to complete an awesome round of golf. As a result he is now off +2 and at the very top of the game in Guernsey - many congratulations to him.

In third place was Jamie Trebert with a very solid 36 points. His round included birdies on both par 5s and he is now down to 9.5.

In the Red Tee Longue Rue Cup the scoring was even more impressive. Josh Neville was the winner with a brilliant 48 points to bag his third order of Merit win of the season and he is now leading in the red tee category. Josh’s round included six pars and he was out in 42 and back in 46 for a super 88 gross. Runner up was Lewis O’Brien with a tremendous 46 points which surely would have been good enough to win on another day. He enjoyed a brilliant front nine with four pars which included 3s on the third and seventh and was out in 45. His round of 95 means he is now down to 24.

Chloe Gaudion was third and like Lewis her fantastic 43 points would have won most Junior Competitions. However her consolation was the best round of her life at L’ancresse. A stunning 5 over par 77 gross which included nine pars, a birdie on the third and an eagle on the 15th. As a result she is now down to 9.7 and heading towards the top of the women’s game in Guernsey.

In the Blue tee competition Noah Millar took a deserved first Order of Merit win of the season after being runner up four times. His excellent 20 points included three pars. Runner up was Rory Clarke.

Next up we are back at La Grande Mare on Sunday for their August Competition. On Tuesday 10th August St Pierre Park host their Junior Open which is a bonus Ray Lowe series event. Then on Wednesday 11th August it’s our big one - the Junior Open, with fantastic prizes on offer not to mention the best Burger and Chicken Nuggets in Guernsey, this is one not miss!

Entries for all these competitions are open now.

Junior Hampshire Championships 2021

Very wet conditions greeted the five strong Guernsey contingent at Cams Hall for the Hampshire Junior Championships yesterday. All five hit terrific opening tee shots which was all the more impressive considering, Jayden Tucknott , Alex Mills and Thomas Chamberlain were on debut.

The U12/U13 category was played over 18 holes. Alex Mills underlined his class again with fourth place in the scratch, a round which included five pars, a very accomplished debut. Thomas Chamberlain also enjoyed an excellent first Championships. He seemed to take a particular liking to the par 3’s making pars on three out of four of them and finished his round in style with a birdie at the last to finish in 8th. The future is very bright with these two who would surely have impressed our Hampshire hosts seeing them play for the first time.

The U16/U18 Category was played over 36 holes. The boys battled through most of the first round in heavy rain and all of them did themselves proud. James Troop was the highest Guernsey finisher in 19th place in the scratch and was top ten in the nett category, he is now down to single figures for the first time. He was one shot ahead of Jayden Tucknott in 20th (11th nett) and Daniel Troop in 23rd (13th nett). The field featured four plus handicap and two scratch players highlighting the strength of Junior Golf in Hampshire. Jayden Tucknott had the round of the day in the Guernsey contingent. After a difficult morning, he bounced back with a superb 80 gross in the afternoon, one under handicap. His round featured 8 pars and two birdies, a great effort.

Well done to all the boys, the experience playing at this level is invaluable and will stand them in great stead for future Championships. Also a big thank you to sponsors Ray Lowe Sporting FoundationApplebyGuernsey Sports Commission and the Guernsey Golf Union

We look forward to returning next year and bringing an even bigger contingent with some more new faces too.
