REDHEAD CLARET JUG - BRILLIANT WIN FOR LEWIS & RORY SHOOTS 68 GROSS

REDHEAD CLARET JUG - BRILLIANT WIN FOR LEWIS & RORY SHOOTS 68 GROSS

Lewis Marley shot the round of his career to date with a stunning 76 gross for 42 points to win the Redhead Claret Jug today. The round represented a major milestone for Lewis as it was the first time he has gone sub 80 in competition at L’ancresse. He had ten pars in total, and was out in 38 with a birdie on the 6th. He then proceeded to birdie the 11th and 14th to come back in 36. Lewis, a multiple winner in Junior Golf in recent years, also created a little bit of history in becoming the first Junior to win a major competition since the club allowed juniors with handicaps of 12 and under to win men’s competitions.

In third place also with 42 points was Rory Mckenna who has been in fantastic form this season. The Island Junior Boys Champion won the scratch prize with a brilliant round of 68 gross. Rory produced golf of the very highest quality with birdies on five of the first ten holes. He was out in 33 and back in 35. The round also represented a milestone for Rory as it was the first time he has gone sub 70 in a stroke play round in competition on his home course. Based on his recent form it was only a matter of time but to do it in such style simply underlines his class.

Congratulations to Lewis and Rory on your outstanding rounds - another fantastic day for Junior Golf!

LGM Junior Club Championship - Ollie wins the trophy he has made his own!

Fantastic weather greeted the strong field for the two day La Grande Mare Junior Club Championships supported by Petersfield Landscaping. The event was played from 3 sets of tees to reflect the players abilities.

In the competition for juniors playing from their adult tees, Day 1 saw the scores much tighter than expected. Ollie Chedhomme led the field with a 2 over gross 67 with Daniel Troop finishing just two shots back with a 69, a great achievement for the 9 handicapper. Conor McKenna completed the top three with a 75.

On day 2, the class of Ollie Chedhomme came through with a strong round of 70 giving a total of 137. Daniel could not repeat the play of Day 1 finishing runner up in the Net competition. Conor McKenna put together an excellent second round of 69 and the on form Hampshire Junior picked up the Net prize. Ollie’s golf continues to go from strength to strength and it was no surprise he defended the title.

The Red tee competition was the most closely comtested of the weekend. Two of the strongest emerging juniors, Alex Mills and Thomas Chamberlain had an epic battle. At the end of day 1 Thomas led by a single Stableford point with 37 points. Round 2 remained exceptionally tight with both players scoring 38 points. It could have gone either way but Thomas came out on top.

Blue tee player Thomas Czarnecki continues his development with a further handicap cut with 35 points over the weekend and the blue tee title.

Rory and Chloe D crowned Junior Island Champions

The 2021 GGU junior island championships, supported by DJW Prestige Vehicle Sourcing, came to a conclusion today with Rory McKenna and Chloe Domaille being crowned champions.

It was a perfect day for golf at L’Ancresse Links and the finalists did not disappoint . The boys final was contested by brothers Rory and Conor McKenna. While both boys played well, Rory played the round of his life finishing 4 under gross when the match finished on the 13th. Few players of any age could have kept pace with Rory today. He will now go on to contest the CI final to be played at L’Ancresse on the 25th July.

The girls final was a close affair between Jennie Ballay and Chloe Domaille over the first 7 holes. As the match progressed Chloe pulled away with the match finishing on the 14th.

Congratulations to both our champions.

Thanks to Royal Guernsey for hosting the championships, the work of the GGU committee, the match referee Andy Dawson and our sponsor DJW Prestige Vehicle Sourcing.
