Fantastic weather greeted the strong field for the two day La Grande Mare Junior Club Championships supported by Petersfield Landscaping. The event was played from 3 sets of tees to reflect the players abilities.
In the competition for juniors playing from their adult tees, Day 1 saw the scores much tighter than expected. Ollie Chedhomme led the field with a 2 over gross 67 with Daniel Troop finishing just two shots back with a 69, a great achievement for the 9 handicapper. Conor McKenna completed the top three with a 75.
On day 2, the class of Ollie Chedhomme came through with a strong round of 70 giving a total of 137. Daniel could not repeat the play of Day 1 finishing runner up in the Net competition. Conor McKenna put together an excellent second round of 69 and the on form Hampshire Junior picked up the Net prize. Ollie’s golf continues to go from strength to strength and it was no surprise he defended the title.
The Red tee competition was the most closely comtested of the weekend. Two of the strongest emerging juniors, Alex Mills and Thomas Chamberlain had an epic battle. At the end of day 1 Thomas led by a single Stableford point with 37 points. Round 2 remained exceptionally tight with both players scoring 38 points. It could have gone either way but Thomas came out on top.
Blue tee player Thomas Czarnecki continues his development with a further handicap cut with 35 points over the weekend and the blue tee title.
