Representatives of the junior island team took on a strong Ladies development squad team on Sunday at Royal Guernsey. The managers for the event, Roland Mills and James Chamberlain, took the opportunity to blood some of the younger members of the squad mixing it with a blend of experience. It was great challenge playing in the less played foresome format.
The match was led of by Max Raffray, playing singles against Veronica Bougourd. Max playing singles due to a late withdrawal, was always in control of his match after going out in 37. He closed out the match winning 3&2.
Comeback of the day was by Jamie Trebert and Noah Davy. The pair were 3 down and 3 to play but their never say die spirit earned them a half on the 18th. Chloe Domaille and Chloe Gaudion hit the form team of Mandy Webber and Mary Bate losing 6&4. Alex Mills and James Troop cruised to a 5&3 win after being 4up after the first 4 holes and Lilly and Jenny stole the honour of the win by going 1up on the 17th and holding their nerve on 18 to win.
Team manager of the event Roland Mills said,
‘Well done team… a massive effort to win 3.5 to 1.5. I am so proud of how deep you all fought to defend your matches. A fabulous day for the junior island development team!’
A big thanks to the Ladies Development squad, Royal Guernsey for hosting, the organisers and Appleby and the Ray Lowe Sporting Foundation for their continued support of the junior island squad.
