Last weekend saw the first junior Competition of the year and it was one to remember for Jennie Ballay. Her hard work in the off season has clearly paid dividends as she posted a remarkable 82 gross (net 57) and 48 stableford points to take an early lead in the Ray Lowe Order of Merit Series with the win. The Summer Solstice Competition at La Grande Mare was the second day of the Junior Club Championships and Jennie showed her quality by shooting an equally impressive 83 (nett 58) on the day before. A substantial handicap reduction beckons and Jennie has put down an early marker as a serious contender for the Order of Merit.
Home player Ollie Chedhomme took the honours in the Club Championships shooting back to back 68s in testing conditions, testament to his quality.
Conor Mckenna took second place in the Summer Solstice Competition with a superb 39 points which is just the start of season he was looking for.
In the red tee competition (Handicaps 28 and over) Thomas Chamberlain took the honours with an extraordinary 49 points from Alexander Mills whose 43 points would surely have been good enough to win on any other day. There is some serious talent in the youngest Junior ranks and we look forward to seeing how they progress over the season.
Next up on Sunday is The Hurford Cup and Bowmaker Trophy at Royal Guernsey which is open to White, Red and Blue tee players.
