The Junior competition season came to a close today with the End of season Competition at La Grande Mare.
The White Tee Under 28 Category was fiercely contested throughout the season. Lewis Marley has enjoyed a superb run of form recently and his five wins meant he eventually ran out a comfortable winner by 8 points from Rory Mckenna who pipped Daniel Troop on countback. Lewis has played some stunning golf at times this season but there is still clearly a lot more to come from this mercurial player. 2021 promises to be an exciting time for him and a number of our blossoming talents.
Surprisingly Rory Mckenna only won one order of Merit event but it highlights his wonderful consistency that he was runner up and he was comfortably the best scratch player of the season. Daniel has continued to improve and has played some great golf this year.
In the Over 28 Handicap Category Thomas Chamberlain was the runaway winner with five wins over the season amassing 77 points along the way. Thomas is one of our brightest talents across all the age groups and has enjoyed some titanic battles with his rivals over the season. Runner up in this category was Lily McNeela who pipped Alex Mills on countback. Lily had three wins during and despite a loss of form after a great start came roaring back at the end of the season which is a credit to her strength of character. Alex Mills clocked up two wins and next season can’t come quick enough for this talented ball striker.
The Blue Tee Category was contested for the first time this season in the Order of Merit. The scoring at times at all the venues was nothing short of sensational. The winner was Theo Hollyer-Hill with a remarkable 6 wins for 79 points. Theo loves the game and a combination of hard work, talent and a great attitude made him a deserved winner. Runner Up was Lewis O’Brien, a wonderful talent and such was his consistency he was only five points behind Theo in a season which included two excellent wins.
Despite the challenges we’ve all faced over the last year, it was incredible that a full schedule of 17 Junior Competions was eventually able to be played. A big thank you to Junior Co-Ordinator Geoff Troop and the administrators at all the clubs for their hard work in making this happen.
29 Juniors competed over the season which is testament to the flourishing strength of the Junior game. A special thank you to the Ray Lowe Sporting Foundation for their continued support of Junior Golf. We look forward to an even bigger and better Order of Merit Series next season.
