Junior Star Rory Mckenna came within a whisker of joining some of Guernsey’s greatest golfers on the honours board in the final round of the men’s club championships today. Just like last week there were high winds but the Hampshire U16 Captain showed yet again he has the technique and talent to deal with the toughest of conditions. His second round of 78 gross nett 73 featured an excellent front 9 of 38 and he birdied the 14th to come back in 40 for a 36 hole total of 155 just one behind veteran Mick Marley. It was an outstanding effort to come so close at this stage in Rory’s career although he did win the nett prize which was a nice reward for two superb rounds of golf where he left some of the island’s finest trailing in his wake.
Many congratulations Rory from everyone in the Junior section, a classy and popular player who many of our juniors look up to, we are all very proud of you.
Rory will be in action next weekend in the Boys Junior Championships.
