HURFORD & BOWMAKER CUPS - SHAY GODDARD WITH A DEBUT TO REMEMBER, ANTON SWALE CONTINUES HIS GREAT FORM & JOSH NEVILLE BACK ON TOP

It was another day of great scoring on a beautiful day at L’ancresse for the fourth stop in the Ray Lowe Sporting Foundation Order of Merit.

In the White Tee Bowmaker Cup it was a brilliant winning debut for Shay Goddard. Shay has been a member for just four months and only got his handicap last week in time for the competition. He showed no signs of nerves splitting the fairway on the first and he never looked back. Playing off 23, Shay shot a superb 85 gross scoring 44 points which included nine pars, an incredible performance. A superb footballer and also an excellent cricketer as youngster, we are absolutely delighted to have this talented sportsman at the club and we look forward to following his journey in golf which if yesterday is anything to go by, promises to be an exciting and successful one.

Runner up was In form Jayden Tucknott who continued his recent great form with a classy 74 gross for 40 points. His round featured 11 pars and birdies at the 10th and 17th.

Conor McKenna was third with a sublime level par 70 gross, for 38 points, his best round to date at L’ancresse in competition. The 14 year old is in formidable form ahead of some big competitions in the next few weeks.

In the red tee Bowmaker Cup big hitting Anton Swale had the best score for the second successive competition in a row. Despite a big handicap reduction following his last outing, Anton scored an excellent 39 points which included a brilliant par at the 3rd. Anton has an uncomplicated approach to the game, casually dropping his ball on to the first tee and then proceeding to drill a fairway metal off the deck miles down the fairway. It’s very impressive to watch.

Winner of the Bowmaker Cup was Josh Neville scoring 36 points which included 3 pars and an excellent back nine of 45. It was his second runner up spot of the season and he is likely to be a serious contender for the order of merit this season.

In third place was Rory Clarke with 35 points making 5 pars along the way, another very good display.

Next up we are back at La Grande Mare on Sunday 1st for their May Day Competition - Entry is open now
