Royal Guernsey Junior Club Championships

Perfect weather conditions greeted the competitors in the Junior Club Championships yesterday. The greens were always going to be a challenge after maintenance but as the old adage goes, it was the same for everyone.

An impressive field of 9 teed off in the morning for the 36 hole boys competition. Ollie Chedhomme pretty much put himself out of sight after the morning with a stunning 72 gross which was 9 shots better than closest rivals Rory Mckenna and Ollie Parsons. Although he wasn’t quite at his best in the afternoon his 79 gross for a total of 151 meant he was crowned Champion with Rory runner up on 159. Conor Mckenna was third after shooting an excellent 77 gross which was the best score of the afternoon.

In the nett competition it was a day to remember for Ollie Parsons. He shot a superb 81 (nett 66) in the morning followed by 83 (nett 68) in the afternoon, 6 ahead of nearest rival Conor.

The girls competition took place over 18 holes. Chloe Domaille was on fire again and thoroughly deserved to take the title with a superb 40 points earning a reduction of two shots to 24 in the process. Chloe Gaudion was runner up just beating Jennie Ballay on countback.

The club also very kindly put on a red tee competition for the boys with Alex Mills scoring an excellent 40 points just ahead of Noah Davy.

The Club Championships was the last of our white tee Junior Competitions this season. It was very pleasing to see the largest field for a number of years in the boys competition with a number of players poised to make the breakthrough to single figures next season if they carry on working hard and improving as they have been.

The girls competition has not been contested for a number of years so to have three girls competing at such a good level is testament to their talent and hard work and Alice Hurford behind the scenes who is doing so much to encourage the next generation.

The final event of the season for the red tee players is the Cincinatti Cup this Sunday.
