LA GRANDE MARE CANDY CUP - Wins for Alex and Rory

The first competition of the Ray Lowe Sporting Foundation took place on Sunday in superb conditions at La Grande Mare.

A number of players have moved up to the white and red tees this year which should make for a highly competitive season with the young guns taking on the more experienced players.

In the white tee category Hampshire U14 Development players Alex Mills and Thomas Chamberlain were making their debut off the tips. Alex picked up where he left off last year with a very solid performance to take top spot with 36 points. His round included 6 pars and a birdie at the 10th. After a challenging front nine he turned on the style on the back nine coming back in 36. Runner up was ‘Mr Consistent’ Thomas, who put in another solid display also making 6 pars and scoring 35 points.

In the red tee competition another serial winner Rory Clarke took the top spot scoring 27 points beating Josh Neville on countback. Both players will surely feature in the mix as we move into the main season in what will be a hotly contested category.

The next competition will be at La Grande Mare on 3rd April.
